Telegraph a great local newspaper

What an unexpected treat to read (Samantha Perry’s) column in (the Sunday) Daily Telegraph! As an old guy who loves newspapers and good writing, I’m usually disappointed with “local” papers. They are most often long on wire stories and short on really well-done local pieces.

So as I passed through your town I was delighted to find not the ubiquitous USA Today in the hotel lobby, but an honest-to-goodness real newspaper, filled with interesting, solid stories, well written and edited. It has long been my habit when traveling to find the local paper, if possible, scan the front page, then go straight to the editorials to see what’s really important in that community. This morning I got you! Congratulations on your great piece, your excellent colleagues’ stories and on your clearly well deserved West Virginia Press Association award.
