Coaches appreciated for all they do

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

— — Living in this area we are used to hearing the phrase Four Seasons Country. We have cool spring days, hot lazy summers, colorful displays in the fall and a white, winter wonderful in winter. We have other seasons also. They are basketball, baseball, football and soccer seasons. There are some families in this area with children playing several of these sports.

Their dedication to these sports is often overlooked. People may not realize the sacrifices some of these families make. Not only do the parents make sacrifices, but the coaches and referees also give their time and talents. Several of these coaches don’t even have children of their own playing these sports, but they tirelessly work with each and every one of them. Some of these coaches go straight to practice or a game after a full day at work, not even going home to relax for a while.

I know none of these guys do it for the recognition, but I would like to name drop a few who have touched my grandchildren’s lives. Kudos to Brian, Terry, Jack, Pay, Robert G., Aaron, Robert, Huffy, Bryce, Kyle, Lee, Steve, Joe, Tim, Mike, Shane, Chaun, Tony, Buster and last, but in no way the least, the late Chris Foley.

As I have learned recently — one coach told my grandson — these coaches are not only teaching them how to play a good game, but also how to be productive and dedicated in all they do in life.

Hats off to you all.
