Thanks for balanced news coverage

— Regarding the upcoming presidential election, I’m sure I share a common problem with many voters. How is a person to make an informed decision on which candidate would best serve our country? The national news media tends to promote political polarization and discord instead of having serious discussion of issues. Thankfully, there are some ideologically balanced sources that a person can turn to, such as the C-Span TV channels and the BDT. My thanks to the Daily Telegraph for the editorial page commentary, both syndicated and local, that provides the reader balanced viewpoints. Our founding fathers were well aware of the critical importance of an informed electorate.

Speaking of C-Span, I watched a program recently that featured a discussion of a new book by noted writers Barlett and Steele titled “The Betrayal of the American Dream.” Their book basically is about corporate outsourcing of  American jobs overseas, especially to China, and how much this has impacted well-paying jobs in the U.S. In fact, in recent days it was reported that the median household income has dropped by more than $4,000 over the past several years.

I am sure that at least in part, corporate outsourcing is to blame. How can it possibly be fair to the American worker to allow a corporation in the U.S. to utilize Chinese labor, which is strictly controlled by their government, to produce goods that are then imported back to the U.S.?

According to Barlett and Steele, the corporations do not pay a significant penalty on the imported goods. Seems un-American to me!
