“Evil visited this community today.” That’s how Connecticut’s governor started his speech in response to the Newtown tragedy. That beginning statement is also the answer for most of the questions being asked today. There are evil people in the world. Always has been and always will be.
Evil like this happens every day all over the world. But this time it was too close to home. So what do we do?
It seems to me you do not stop evil by disarming the good. Evil is to blame and cannot be reasoned with or changed. It only laughs at those who think they can. And because evil is predatory, it is the No. 1 advocate for gun control.
It also seems to me that the more technology we have, the further we remove ourselves into our own little worlds. We don’t pay attention to what is going on around us. Maybe we need to reconnect with the most important things in life — each other.
May God bless and comfort the families of the victims this holiday season in ways only He knows how.
