More issues in McDowell to address

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

— Reading the Bluefield Daily Telegraph and I might say that it was gratifying to see folks in McDowell County rise up about things that are wrong or maybe going wrong. This county has had problems for years that have been here and no one it seems is trying to help.

For example, just simple things like pulling the ditch line over around War. In Welch that is not a problem. The weeds along the highway don’t get cut around the southern tip of McDowell County’s road. That is no problem in Welch. There is all kinds of little things that we lack from the state of West Virginia that Welch has no problems with. We have always lacked representation in Charleston which has been noted from this area.

Another thing is Appalachian Power losing power in this area. I was here in War as a boy in the 40s and I may be wrong but I can’t remember one day of school missed because of the lack of electric power. I wonder why that is. The snow was a lot heavier back then than today. When the electricity goes off in this area I don’t recall any representative raising that question with the Public Service Commission. Just a thought.
