Thanks for assistance with event

— — On behalf of the Mercer County Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day committee, I want to take this opportunity to thank those individuals and businesses that helped make the first Mercer County Vietnam Veterans Recognition Day ceremony a success.

Special thanks to the building commission at the Memorial Building for use of the facility, Princeton Health Care Center (chairs), American National University (flags), Pauline Taylor, Joe Hendricks, Tony Whitlow, Bill Blankenship, Sgt. Major Krabbe and the Montcalm High School JROTC, the Rev. Terry Edwards, soloist Patricia Whittaker and Pete Sternloff (sound system and programs).

Also thank to our legislators and their representatives: Kimberly Gross representing the office of the Governor of West Virginia, Earl Ray Tomblin, Michael Browning representing Sen. Joe Manchin III, Congressman Nick Joe Rahall, Del. John Shott, Del. Joe Ellington and Del. Marty Gearheart. Thanks to the media: WVVA, WOAY, Dreama Denver, Craig Hammond, the Bluefield Daily Telegraph and Princeton Times for the promotion and coverage of the event, and to Bluefield State College and Ramey’s for posting the event on their marquees.

I had an awesome committee to work with, including Laura King, Josh Cline, Valerie Hendricks, Al Hancock, Pat Wilson, Bonnie Patterson and Pete Sternloff. Thanks guys. Thanks to the community for their attendance and support of all our veterans, but most of all thanks to our Vietnam veterans, this day was for you. Welcome home!

Remember: Don’t forget to thank a veteran.
