Overreaction to raw chicken incident

— — The whoop-de-rah surrounding the serving of undercooked chicken at Princeton Middle School reminds me of a trivia question of a chef who committed suicide when a doggie bag was requested. Overreaction? A gross mistake in more ways than one? Agreed. But not all that uncommon.

More than once in my life I have cut or bitten into undercooked chicken. And I have experienced Salmonella, and though the source was the back of a relative’s pet turtle, it was not an experience I would wish on anyone. But a lynch mob is not necessary. A simple “Always use the meat thermometer” should suffice. Frankly, if I had a middle-school student who would eat a bloody piece of chicken, I would be worried about more than the bloody chicken.
