Bluefield Daily Telegraph
I have lived off Heatherwood Road for 12 years. Recently, I experienced a power outage. That in itself is really no big deal. Storms come, things happen.
The rub comes when you consider that of those 12 years at said location, I have lost power in 10 of those years, for various lengths of time and at different times of year.
Of those 10 years, only once, when main power was taken down near Whitethorn Street, can the problem be attributed to anything other than old trees on Oakhurst Avenue. More than once from the same property.
Common sense would dictate that if power lines are in peril, trees should be cut. In fact several years ago the upper end of College Avenue was virtually clear due to cutting of old, large trees.
Maybe someone could explain why these trees, or their owners, are any different than any other part of town. Or maybe that’s a rhetorical question.
Oh well, maybe I’ll have power in time to turn on Channel 6 and watch the Beckley news. If not, on a brighter note, my wife dearly loves candles and Scrabble.
