Thanks for spay association gala support

— Seventeen of the best volunteers you could ever ask for, perfect weather, a nice turnout, more revenue than last year and three wonderful guests. Somebody up there likes what we are doing with the annual Mercer County Spay Association Golf Gala(s) being held at the ever-improving Wolf Creek Golf Club in Bastian, Va.

Our second tournament held recently at WCGC featured three new guests — PGA senior tour golfer John Ross, and his wife Joyce, and Miss Central West Virginia Casey Gunnoe of Princeton. John served as a witness for some of our putting contests and also spent a lot of time showing several folks better putting techniques. Miss Gunnoe was our official hostess and starter, distributed prize money to the winning teams, and had a great time traveling around the course visiting with players. I had just about given up on this younger generation until spending the afternoon with Casey. I’m about to change my mind!

There are many people to thank including: Mountaineer Lanes (team and hole sponsor), Delegate John Shott, Edgehill Kennel of Athens (another team and hole sponsor), The Pulaski County Hokie Club (John Rupe, Judy Nelson and Dine Santolla), Larry Gilmore of Dublin, Country Power of Princeton, Mark Saunders of BSC, Mark Milford, Matt and Helen Selby, Ramey Chevrolet in Princeton. Jack Sarver, Sam Baker Insurance, All Creatures Vet Clinic, Sarah J’s, Princeton Health Care Center, Mac Contractors, LLC of Bluefield, Consol Energy of Oakwood, Va., Seaver Funeral Service, Animal Care Center PLLC, Draper Valley GC, Princeton Elks, Shelby Kitts of Princeton, Dave and Suzie Tuggle of Radford, Vet Associates of Bluefield and Princeton, Happy Tails and Mercer Funeral Home of Bluefield.

We can’t forget our local media. The Daily Telegraph, the Trading Journal, WVVA-6 and Craig Hammond’s radio show were more than generous in their promotion and coverage of our event. The first two tournaments have been so much fun that number three has already been booked for Saturday, May 30, 2015, again at the beautiful Wolf Creek Golf & Country Club. We are making a difference, plan now to join us next May.
