Thanks to Lasker for years of service

— — Like many of you, my wife recently received a letter announcing that Dr. Bruce Lasker is retiring and closing his practice on June 30. Dr. Lasker has been my wife’s OB-GYN since we arrived in Bluefield in 19B9, and delivered our three, now college-aged children. My family, as I’m sure as many of yours, will greatly miss having such a talented, experienced, warm and engaging doctor to call on in our hours of need. As I have worked closely with Bruce over the years, I have known this day was coming for some time. Still, seeing it in writing somehow brings home the full impact of this upcoming transition.

I’m sure I am joined by many in the community who want to personally offer Bruce our heartfelt appreciation for his many years of dedicated service here in Bluefield. Few have spent more sleepless nights engaged in such important work. Bruce’s ready smile, soft, reassuring touch and tireless dedication has served as an inspiration to all of us who have had the privilege of working closely with him. So many of us have entrusted those we care about most in life to his able hands. He has never failed to deliver. Thank you Dr. Lasker. We wish you long life and happiness, whatever the future holds in store for you.

Although we may never be able to fully measure up to your high standards, know that Drs. Brodnik, Edwards, Peterson, and I, to name but a few of your colleagues in the Bluefield medical community, will do our best to practice in the spirit of dedicated compassion you have demonstrated and see to it that your patients are well cared for upon your retirement.

Dr. Fred Barker

Bluefield surgeon
