Police should arrest DUI ATV riders

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

— — A month or so ago I wrote a note regarding four-wheelers. What I don’t like about four-wheelers is those people who mess with the mufflers so they will make a lot of noise and a lot of them have a cooler on them or a bottle on them and they go over to Big Creek Hollow and drink. When they come back down John’s Branch they could be charged with DUI.

That alone puts everyone in John’s Branch in harm’s way and there are no police officers to check them when they come back down this hollow with a one-lane road. I’m not saying everyone does this but it only take one DUI to cause damages, and most of those people who want this road to lead to the Hatfield highway don’t live along this one-lane road so naturally they could care less about these problems.

I see good people go by my house who are going slow and respect the folks who live here. But you always have that group of people who get their kicks from bothering folks.

The town passed a ordinance that all four-wheelers would be off the road by 9 p.m. but some time we have people riding them at 3 a.m. These are some of those people who have no respect for the law or the general public. And to make things worse we in John’s Branch are on our own because there is never a police office up here after dark.

Like I said the public up here is on their own.
