Spay Association golf tourney a success

— The greens were great, the weather was better and the firs-ever Mercer County Spay Association golf tournament held recently at the Wolf Creek Golf Club was a success.

Our association had 16 teams tee it up, although I thought we would have more. The folks who run Wolf Creek Golf Club and others have assured us that for a first-time tournament, it was a good turnout.

There are a lot of people to thank for getting us started. They include: Mountaineer Lanes (a team and hole sponsor), Grant’s Markets, Roger Pike, Ramey Chevrolet Princeton, John Shott, True Wheel of Princeton, Kathy Kennedy, Happy Tails Animal Clinic, Dr. Robert Stevens, DDM, Gary Bowling’s House of Art, TCR’s Bar and Grill, Mark Saunders of BSC, Sarah’s on Cumberland Road, Veterinarian Associates of Bluefield and Princeton, Mac Construction LLC, Judy Nelson of Dublin, Va., Dave and Susie Tuggle of Radford, Va., Bluefield Elks, John Rupe of Pulaski, Shelby Kitts of Princeton, Consol Energy Inc., Tahoe Keys Resort, Lake Tahoe NV/CA, Wes Hinkle of State Farm in Princeton, Seaver Funeral Service Inc., Anonymous (two holes honoring parents and pets), Animal Care Center of Princeton, Samantha Perry and Brian Woodson of the Daily Telegraph, WVVA and Craig Hammond of 1440 AM.

These contributors and members of the 16 teams made is possible for our association to spay and neuter approximately 100 animals. Mistakes were made (mostly mine) but like a well-known regional college coach stated following a stunning loss in the Gator Bowl: “We’ll be back and we’ll be better.”
