Poll workers not clear on requirements

— — I voted last Tuesday around 8  a.m. at Memorial Elementary School on Memorial Avenue, Bluefield (just off Bland Road). I was asked to show an ID. I showed the poll worker my driver’s license and asked if an ID was required. She didn’t seem to know and looked at the other poll workers. One of them finally said, “Yes, you must show either a photo ID or your voter registration card in order to vote.”

West Virginia has no state voter ID law. You are only required to show ID the first time you vote after registering.

I found this both curious and disturbing — first, that I was asked for an ID and second, that the poll workers weren’t clear on the requirements.
