Boucher was right about cap and trade

— In the 2010 election Rick Boucher tried to explain to others that cap-and-trade legislation that he supported would leave Congress in charge of energy and environmental policy. Without cap and trade the control would go to the EPA and the results would be far worse.

That is exactly what happened. Mr. Boucher’s opponent, Morgan Griffith, was elected and voted against cap and trade. Now, he whines endlessly about the decline of the coal industry and the lack of congressional control. He can’t have it both ways.

Cap and trade was used in the northeast to end acid rain and it worked while at the same time preserving industry and  jobs.

Rick Boucher was a powerful and moderate force in Congress who accomplished a great deal. Mr.  Griffith is a right-wing ideologue who has accomplished nothing. His party can’t even pass a farm bill. Southwest Virginia needs economic developmental diversity. All that Mr. Griffith knows how to do is say “no,” to everything.
