Bluefield Daily Telegraph
This is in response to a letter to the editor
regarding Randall Thompson (animal
control officer for the city of Bluefield),
who single-handedly polices our town’s overpopulation
of animals. Officer Thompson is
dispatched by the police in response to citizens’
complaints. This officer is one person
serving Bluefield. I wonder what would happen
if we had but one police officer?
Officer Thompson has been scratched and
bitten — recently bitten severely enough to
warrant a three-day stay in a hospital after
being attacked by a dog. These are dangerous
conditions to endure in order to serve the public.
Is there a reader out there who would take
on this thankless job?
I want to take this opportunity to thank
Officer Thompson and the city board for
enforcing the city code regarding animals. For
those citizens unfamiliar with the city code, I
refer you to Article 1, Sec. 3-3 through 3-11,
and Article 2, Sec 3-20 through 3-50.
