Socialism won’t work in America

— — Let me start by saying that I am a registered Democrat. Before that though I am a Christian, an American, and a West Virginian.

I have many concerns about where our country is headed. Can anyone tell me why socialism is better than democracy? President Obama is trying to shove socialism down our throats and the sad part about it is that we are letting him and his other puppets in Washington get by with it!

My father worked two jobs so our family could have a good life. We weren’t rich but we had food on the table, clothes on our backs and the knowledge that through hard work we could better ourselves. I had a paper route and mowed lawns for my spending money. I learned the value of a dollar that I had earned. I hear it said that the middle class is being squeezed out. What I see is a greater number of people living off of the government.

There are more people than ever before who would rather sit on their front porch and draw a government check than to get out and try to find a job. There are some people who certainly need assistance, but I am talking about that ever growing group of people who are playing the system. I work with several single parents who could easily take the government hand outs but they have pride in themselves. They would rather work for a living and be a good role model for their children. I am very proud of these people for what they do for themselves and their families.

I have some words about socialism that I hope everyone will take to heart. First this quote from Winston Churchill, “Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”

I also present to you the following statements for you to think about. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealth out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anyone anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.
