McDowell sheriff deserves support

— — Recently I was at a meeting and met the new McDowell County sheriff (Martin West), and I must say it was refreshing to see and talk to the man who was not only a sheriff but is also a man of God who talked about the Lord.

He spoke about how he was wanting to do a good job as sheriff but he was lacking funds to update his department. He spoke of a number of his squad cars that have in excess of 200,000 thousand miles on the odometer and the rest have more than 100,000 miles, and about how he didn’t have the equipment to do the job that he wished he could do.

Judging by what he has been doing, it has been very gratifying. I really hope the good folks of the county realize that we are very fortunate to have such a Godly man that is doing such a good job for the county. He needs all the support he can get from the citizens as well as the county commission. Just a thought!
