Bluefield Daily Telegraph
As I sit here just days from Christmas, I recall the days growing up. There were good times and there were bad times. As you grow older you understand how hard it was for your parents. I realized this after I had three children of my own. Somehow my wife and I survived.
Before I was married I graduated from Bluefield High School class of ’68. I joined the United States Marine Corp. I went to PI then to Camp Lejeune. I got my orders for Vietnam after completing engineering school. I was in the 1st Marines 7th Engineers Delta Company. I was stationed on Hill 37 plus about every hill around. I met a lot of people from all across this great country. A lot became close friends. But as you know you lose a lot of close friends. I think about them every day and how they never got to come home and enjoy the good and bad times. I just wish they could have had that opportunity.
My Christmas wish is to see all the men and women who are serving in the military to come home safe. We all know that will not happen, so in these busy days we need to remember all of our heroes past and present. Merry Christmas to all and to my fallen heroes, I thank you for all you gave. You will always be missed.
Semper Fi ’till I die.
