Many reasons to say no to windmills

There have been numerous letters to the editor regarding the placement of wind turbines on East River Mountain. Unfortunately, some of these have been written by the “powers to be” in the eastern part of Virginia, describing the project as very positive for our state.
Studies have shown that there are more favorable conditions for the wind turbines in the Chesapeake Bay area, but they don’t want them in their backyard.
They say that they will bring in jobs. Perhaps, but they’ll only last until the turbines are up and running.
There are so many reasons not to construct the wind turbines; namely, loss of scenic vistas, erosion and land slides, flooding, and up to a 48 percent decrease in real estate property values, just to name a few. Even more disturbing is that none of the electricity produced here will stay in our area.
Are we willing to sit back and let Big Enterprise rake us over the coals?
There is a very important public hearing on Dec. 1 at Tazewell High School. It is vital for all of our citizens to attend this meeting and express our opposition of the wind turbines to the Board of Supervisors. Just say no to wind turbines — yes to the proposed ridgeline protection.
