Rates have increased; why no COLA?

Bluefield Daily Telegraph

I got my Bluefield newspaper this morning. I was not surprised to see what I saw — “No cost of living increase” for any Social Security recipients. I say that is very unfair for all the following reasons.

Where in West Virginia have grocery prices dropped? Not where I live.

Also, AEP just got a raise to all electric customers. And, one again slated for 2010 and 2011!

Gas companies here are now asking for rate increases to all customers — and they will get it. Hearings are just routine — never considered.

Where have jobs increased? Not here — unemployment has went to another high.

We won’t even say what our medicine cost us these days.

So why don’t we get an increase in our Social Security checks? Social Security has always ripped off all of us — and now is one example of it.

One lady told me they took $5 off each of her three daughters’ checks. They took $37 from me each month, then said they’re taking $122 off my check at the end of this month for an over payment that they can’t see on screen where the over payment occurred. It didn’t even add up when the lady tried to show me that the overpayment occurred.

So people during the next election, watch who you vote in office! I did on the last election — didn’t even consider it — I never voted for anyone and won’t vote in the next election either! I worked for my Social Security check for years.

Ms. Phyllis Vanover
