This is a response to the letter (Oct.1) of Stephen G. Roberts, President of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
In summation, his letter appears to be a call for the taxpayers in West Virginia to continue to prop up a failing health care insurance industry that is no longer needed. What West Virginia needs and Mr. Roberts does not want is a universal health care single-payer system that would function essentially the same way Medicare functions.
The day is long gone when we can afford to give the health care industry a free hand to determine what services are provided and at what cost, then allow a private health care insurance industry to rip a flat percentage off the top of gross receipts.
A private health care insurance industry is no longer needed and a private health care industry no longer wanted.
