Ruby Elizabeth Carter

PRINCETON — Ruby Elizabeth Carter, 92, of Blue Rock Circle, Princeton, and formerly from Bluefield, W.Va., passed away Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at the home of her son in Princeton. She was born March 24, 1917 in De Long, Ky. and was the daughter of the late James Worley Tomlinson and Lucritia Williams Tomlinson.

She was a member of the former Midway Church of Christ, now Mid-Way Christian Church, Rt. 460, Bluefield and was retired from Bluefield Regional Medical Center in 1985 after working 28 years in the nursery. She enjoyed spending her time with her neighbors on her porch.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, C. Virgil Carter; an infant son, Billy Carter; brothers, James, Stewart, and Palmer Tomlinson; sisters, Mildred Kidd and Bess McMahan; and two special cousins, Curtis and Grace McMahan.

She is survived by two daughters, Lorraine (Lorene) Gearhart and husband Ronnie, Ben Mountain, Va., Linda Burnette and husband Anthony, Charleston, S.C.; two sons, Charles Carter and wife Yanling-Lei, Lanexa, Va., Kenneth Carter and wife Freda, Princeton, W.Va.; brother, Fred Tomlinson, Kingsport, Tenn.; sister, Evelyn Wolfe, Christiansburg, Va.; sister-in-law, Lucille Tomlinson, Orlando, Fla.; nine grandchildren, Debbie Looney and husband Roger, Karen Cumby and husband Jerry, Alice Sigmon and husband Duel, Beckie Mitchell and husband Mike, Chuck Carter and wife Annette, Donna Snyder and husband Kurt, Jeff Carter and wife Amy, Anthony Burnette, Jr. and Heather Burnette; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and extended family, Leroy Blevins and his children, Michelle and Konata, their son Isaac, Carl Blevins, Mike Blevins and wife Becky and their children, Larissa and Michele.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Mid-Way Christian Church, Rt. 460, Bluefield, with Pastor Dan Webb officiating. Burial will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton. Pallbearers will be Homer Moore, Don Thomas, Herb Taylor, Chester Bratton, Carlos Hogan, and Don Walker.

Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary in Bluefield, Va. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Compassus, 1033 Stafford Dr., Princeton, WV 24740.
