Elizabeth Fentress Orton Feuchtenberger

PRINCETON — Elizabeth Fentress Orton Feuchtenberger, 91, of GlenWood Park Retirement Village, died November 20, 2009 at her home. Born September 7, 1918 in Herndon, W.Va., she was the daughter of Rollie S. and Velma Tucker Orton.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Mark T. Feuchtenberger; and her husband of 63 years, Lloyd D. Feuchtenberger, Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Andrew V. (Virginia) Kozak of State College, Pa.; four children, L.D. (Doug) Feuchtenberger III and his wife Mary R. Feuchtenberger of Princeton, John W. Feuchtenberger of Bluefield, Ellizabeth O. (Betse) Feuchtenberger of Bluefield, and Rollie S. Feuchtenberger and his partner Donald James (D.J.) Case of Washington, D.C. Additional survivors are her grandchildren, Beth F. Conner (Timmy), Eric D. Feuchtenberger (Shawna), and Leila E. Feuchtenberger; great-grandchildren, Russell Blankenship, Kylie Conner, Kendra Conner, Haley Conner, Britany Feuchtenberger and Tori Feuchtenberger. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, R. R. Stuart, Jr. and Anna F. Stuart, Charles R. Scott and Betty F. Scott, Mrs. C.W. (Pat) Feuchtenberger; and a host of nephews and nieces. She viewed the administration and staff of GlenWood Park Retirement Village as her extended family, and was deeply grateful and appreciative of their skilled, compassionate care of her late husband, resident friends, and herself.

She attended Concord College, graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and taught in Mercer County at McComas High School, Wade Junior High School and Fairview Junior High School. She loved the Mercer County Bible in the Schools program, and was an active board member for many years. She was a longtime, faithful member of Westminster Presbyterian Church (EPC), serving as a Sunday School, Kindergarten and Circle teacher, on many working committees, and as Director of its Kindergarten. She participated in Westminster's Women in Ministry, and was presented a life membership in 1989. She was a constant source of inspiration, comfort and counsel to her family and a legion of friends.

Memorial services were held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 22, at Westminster Presbyterian Church (EPC), Washington Street at Albemarle, Bluefield, W.Va. 24701, with the Rev. Howard Finkel and the Rev. Brian Checchio officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in Patterson Chapel of the Church.

In lieu of flowers, if friends desire to make memorial contributions, the Bible in the Schools Fund, P.O. Box 543, Bluefield, WV 24701, or the Westminster Presbyterian Church Building Fund were causes dear to Mrs. Feuchtenberger's heart.

Mercer Funeral Home of Bluefield is in charge of arrangements. E-mails of condolence and cards may be sent to the family at www.mercerfuneralhome.com
