Jerry Lane “Poppy” Taylor

MONTCALM — Jerry Lane “Poppy” Taylor, age 60, of Route 2 Box 32 (Montcalm), Bluefield, W.Va., was called home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, November 18, 2008 in a Princeton hospital surrounded by his family.

Born on October 6, 1948 in Goodwill, he was a son of the late James E. Taylor and Mildred Hill Taylor Fitzko. He had been a resident of Rock for 33 years and was a member of the Pine Grove Church of Christ. He was a coal miner with 33 years of service and was retired from Consol where he worked at the Buchannan #1 mine.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Johnny F. Taylor.

Survivors include: Wife: Carolyn Curry Taylor of the home; two daughters: Monica Williams and husband Johnny of Montcalm, Candice Taylor of Bluefield, Va.; two very special grandchildren whom he loved and they loved him, Jonathon and Kayla; two brothers: Lonnie Taylor and wife Glenna of Princeton, James E. Taylor and wife Bonnie of Montcalm; two sisters: Linda Lilly and husband Roger of Rock, Ruth Ann Greet and husband Jerry of Bassett, Va.

Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, November 21, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Cravens-Shires Funeral Home Chapel in Bluewell with Minister Gary Lamie officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Princeton where Rod Lilly, Shawn Lilly, Troy Taylor, Dave Sturgill, Johnny Tooley, Delbert Mullins, Dewayne Taylor, and Charlie Workman will serve as pallbearers. Don Taylor, Dennie Howell, Freddie Miles, Howard Perkins and Tom Presley will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Friends may call on Thursday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Cravens-Shires Funeral Home in Bluewell is serving the Taylor family.
