Ernest P. (Ernie) “Jaber” Hunnell, Jr.

McDOWELL — Ernest P. (Ernie) “Jaber” Hunnell, Jr., age 67, of McDowell, W.Va., formerly of Gilliam, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2009 at his residence after a long illness. Born January 27, 1942 in Elkhorn, W.Va., he was the son of the late Ernest Paul Hunnell, Sr. and Stella Lowe Hunnell. He was a member of the Rolfe Pentecostal Holiness Church, Rolfe, W.Va. He was a disabled coal miner, a member of the U.M.W.A., having worked last for Elbow Mining Co. after 30 years of service. Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Nellie Loretta Crigger.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Sylvia Patrick Hunnell of the home; his children, Jannie Ann Haas and husband Rick of Pinnacle, N.C., Melissa “Lisa” Dawn Meade and husband Keith of McDowell, W.Va., Paul David Hunnell and wife Cindy of McDowell, W.Va.; three brothers, Ray Michael Hunnell of Welch, W.Va., Archie Hunnell and wife Sharon of Worth, W.Va., Donnie Hunnell of Ashland, W.Va.; two sisters, Patricia “Pat” Surber and husband Tom of King, N.C., Phyllis “Sissie” Martin and husband Don of Athens, W.Va.; four granddaughters, Kathy Powers, Brittany Powers, Kristina Meade, and Samantha “Sam” Hunnell; two grandsons, Keith Meade, Jr. and Paul Divid Hunnell; one great-granddaughter, Isabelle Grace Berggren; one aunt, Hazel Vance of Doran, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Widener Funeral Home Chapel in Northfork, W.Va. with the Rev. Glen Dawson and the Rev. Curtis Honaker officiating. Burial will follow at the Grandview Memory Gardens, Bluefield/Tazewell Rd. Friends may call Saturday night at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of the Wideners Ambulance Service and Robert Isom.
