Harold F. “Tommy” High
HEMPHILL — Harold F. “Tommy” High, 81, of Hemphill passed away Monday, October 19, 2009 in Welch Community Hospital.
Born April 27, 1928 in Bailey, N.C. he was the son of the late Andrew J. High and Nola Eatmon High. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army, and was a retired coal miner.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles E., James A. and Garland R.; four sisters, Marguerite, Geraldine, Phyllis Jean and Barbara; and a stepson, Joe Belcher.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Ella Mae High of the home; two sons, Michael High Sr. of Virginia Beach, Va. and Thomas High and wife Bena of Raleigh, N.C.; two daughters, Judy Adkins and husband Elmer of Lakewood, Ohio and Cindy McCarthy and husband Rob of Rochester Hills, Mich.; two stepsons, James H. Belcher and wife Marsha of Bastian, Va., and Clarence W. Belcher and wife Barbara of Welch; a stepdaughter, Linda S. High of Virginia Beach, Va.; one brother, James C. High of Chesapeake, Va.; three sisters, Wanda Whitley and husband Clinton, Mary Yvonne Whitley, and Sandra Johnson, all of Wilson, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday at 12 p.m. in the Pentecostal Holiness Trinity Temple, Welch with the Rev. Michael Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Princeton.
Friends may call at the church Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
