Donald Junior Tilley

— JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Donald Junior Tilley, age 65, of Jacksonville, Fla., formerly of McDowell County, died July 1, 2008 at his residence after a long illness. Born March 25, 1943 in Powhatan, W.Va., he was the son of the late Garland Tilley and Mary Eldridge Tilley.
He was a former coal miner and truck driver, and a former factory worker in Martinsville, Va. He was an avid music lover and well known for his ability to play numerous kinds of instruments. Junior had been a resident of McDowell County most of his life.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Alfred and Rebecca Tilley; his maternal grandparents, McKinley and Callie Eldridge; his birth mother, Carletta “Charlotte” Bailey Taylor; and one stepson, Morris Stokes.
Survivors include: His wife, Dolly Brock Tilley of the home; two stepdaughters, Barbara Hanabrett and husband Mike of Tampa, Fla., Margaret Schwend and husband Donald of Jacksonville, Fla.; one stepson, Jimmy Brock of Vera, Fla.; six sisters, Lois Graham and husband Lonnie of Sandlick, W.Va., Phyllis McReynolds of Martinsville, Va., Linda Fitzgerald of Keystone, W.Va., Marcella Koger and husband Larry of Carswell, W.Va., Dolly Lane and husband Leonard of Princeton, W.Va., Jennifer Tilley of Keystone, W.Va.; five brothers, Dewey Lee Tilley and wife Carol of Davidson, N.C., David Tilley and Debra of Carswell, W.Va., Bobby Tilley and wife Pat of Vivian, W.Va., Jerry Tilley of Hinton, W.Va., Wayne Tilley and companion Irene Rose of Thorpe, W.Va.; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At the request of the deceased, the body was cremated. There will be a memorial service conducted Friday (July 25, 2008) at 12:00 noon at the Widener Funeral Home Chapel, Kimball, with the Rev. Roger Ferrell officiating. Interment of the cremains will take place at the Rock House Cemetery, Carswell Hollow, near Kimball, at a later date.
