Stewart Patrick Wood

BRISTOL, Va. — On July 3rd, 2009, Stewart Patrick Wood was called to Heaven. He was the last living son of deceased parents, Logan and Gertrude Wood. He was the husband of devoted wife, Lizzie Mae Cassell Wood to whom he was married for 65 years. In addition to his wife, his beloved son, Claude Berton Wood and wife Wanda Mahood Wood survived him. His granddaughter, Denise Wood Pittman and her family, Dr. Tyler Pittman and great-grandchildren, Kayla Brooke (10) and Zachary Wade (6) were a source of joy for Stewart and Mae. Stewart’s five brothers predeceased him: Luther, Claude who lost his life in World War II, Emory, Fred and Scott. He is also survived by several dear nephews and nieces and many friends.

Stewart served in the Army during World War II and was stationed in New Jersey. He attended the Whitney School of Business where he studied accounting. He served as an accountant and office manager for Foremost (Farmbest) Dairies from 1947 to 1981. He was an active member of Victory Baptist Church and would walk to Fellowship Chapel when the weather was too bad for him to drive to Victory. His active and involved life included walking with his buddies twice a day at the Bristol Mall. For twenty-five years he served as a volunteer at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Just let it be said that he was a man of God which was reflected by his humility, service to others and his kindness.

Funeral service will be held Monday, July 6, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. at Victory Baptist Church with Dr. Austin Cook officiating. The burial will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in the Holston View Cemetery in Weber City, Va. The family will receive friends from 6-7:45 p.m. prior to the service at Victory Baptist Church. Pallbearers include James McNally, Scotty Wood, Benny and Walter Cassell, Fred Houser and James Massengill. Honorary pallbearers include John Sandidge, the volunteers with whom he served at Bristol Regional Medical Center, his walking buddies and his friends from Victory Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor the memory of Stewart Wood may make a donation to Victory Baptist Church at 11101 Island Rd., Bristol, Virginia 24201. Online condolences may be registered at www.weaverfuneralhome.net.

Arrangements have been made with Weaver Funeral Home of Bristol, Tenn.
