Frederick M. “Fred” Bell

PRINCETON — Frederick M. “Fred” Bell, 92, of 1109 Harrison St. in Princeton died Friday, May 9, 2008, at RidgeCare Personal Care Home in Princeton.

Born May 24, 1915 he was the son of the late Victor A. “Harry” and Leora E. Christie Bell.

Fred graduated from Concord College and taught at Spanishburg High School later returning to Virginia Polytechnic Institute to graduate with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He worked as a Chemical Engineer at the Celanese facility in Pearisburg, Va., and later worked in Public Relations with NASA. He also worked with the city utilities departments of both Princeton and Bluefield. Fred was involved in many community activities and organizations including the Mercer County Historical Society and the Appalachian Area Agency on Aging. He taught the “55 Alive” driving course for many years. He and his late wife were active in the Elderhostel program and he did numerous volunteer museum lectures. He also served several terms in the West Virginia Silver Haired Legislature. Fred was an avid student and teacher who loved both learning and sharing the knowledge he had acquired with others.

In addition to his parents, his wife of 62 years, Kinnie Evelyn Hunter Bell and one daughter, Karen Ann Bell preceded him in death.

Survivors include two sons, Christie Allen Bell and his wife Teresa of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Stephen Frederick Bell and his wife Lisa of Allen, Texas; two granddaughters, Bridget House of Carlisle, Pa., and Megan Scritchfield of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one great-granddaughter, Alexandria House.

Fred donated his body to the West Virginia University Human Gift Registry.

Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at the George W. Seaver Chapel of Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton with Pastor Terry Lambert officiating.

Friends may call at Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton from 10:00 a.m. to the service hour on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Baptist Church, 1865 Goodwyns Chapel Rd., Princeton, WV 24740.

Seaver Funeral Home in Princeton is serving the Bell family.
