Seven people have applied to fill the remaining term of the Mingo County Circuit Court seat formerly held by Michael Thornsbury.
The applications were submitted by Tuesday’s deadline to the West Virginia Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission. The commission will recommend three names to Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, who will make the appointment.
Media outlets report that among the applicants are former Supreme Court candidate Tish Chafin, Mingo County Commission attorney Glen Rutledge and Mingo County Family Court Judge Miki Thompson.
Thornsbury pleaded guilty in October to a federal conspiracy charge and resigned from the bench. He was elected to an eight-year term in 2008.
The state Supreme Court appointed Senior Status Judge John Cummings of Cabell County as a temporary replacement for Thornsbury.
