Bedford officials disagree on arming educators

BEDFORD, Va. —  Bedford County supervisors and educators are at odds over a proposal to allow teachers to carry guns at school.

The News & Advance reports that the proposal was included in a list of legislative priorities the Board of Supervisors approved this week for the General Assembly session that starts in January.

Supervisor John Sharp said the move could make campuses safer without a big cost to taxpayers. The measure passed 6-1.

School Board Chairman Gary Hostutler said Thursday that he’s very much against the idea. He complained that school board members weren’t consulted about the proposal.
