Va adult store’s sales rise after closure order

DANVILLE, Va —  Sales are up at a store that sells sex toys, bondage gear and lingerie since Pittsylvania County ordered it to close in May.

Owner Trish Post said that people are showing their support for her store, Shh ... Intimacy on a New Level, by buying products.

“More people are coming in and shopping,” Post told the Danville Register & Bee.

The county says the store in Mount Hermon violated the county zoning ordinance. Post is appealing the closure order to the Board of Zoning Appeals.

Odie Shelton, the county’s code compliance director, allowed the store to remain open while the appeal is pending.

Earlier this month, Shelton ordered another adult store in Ringgold to close for violating the zoning ordinance by selling sex toys and pornographic DVDs.

Post said the county is unfairly targeting the businesses.

“If they don’t like it, they don’t have to shop in the stores,” Post said.

“I don’t think it’s fair they’re taking away businesses that are bringing in revenue just because of what we sell,” Post said.

A hearing on Post’s appeal is set for Sept. 10 in Chatham.
