Burning coal seam sparks forest fire in Boone Co.

Associated Press

TWILIGHT — Firefighters are working to contain a forest fire that’s burned more than a square mile in Boone County.

Charlie Spencer with the state Division of Forestry tells media outlets that a burning underground coal seam sparked the fire.

The fire was reported over the weekend near Twilight.

Firefighters are using bulldozers and chainsaws to clear fallen trees blocking access roads.

The fire isn’t threatening any homes.
