FAIRFAX, Va. —
A Falls Church man has been sentenced to 49 years in prison for killing a teenage student who had stopped to give the man and his infant daughter a ride to a hospital.
Twenty-seven-year-old Julio Blanco Garcia admitted he was high on PCP in June 2010 when he fatally stabbed 19-year-old Vanessa Pham of Falls Church.
Pham was found dead in her car in a ditch and her murder went unsolved for more than two years. Blanco Garcia was arrested in December after police found DNA evidence linking him to the killing.
The sentence imposed at Friday’s hearing matches the recommendation of the jury that convicted him of first-degree murder. It was the longest sentence the judge could impose.
Blanco Garcia apologized at Friday’s hearing.
