About 49,000 West Virginia American Water customers’ monthly bills have been adjusted to correct billing errors.
The company notified affected customers in late August that the errors occurred after it transitioned to a new billing software system in May.
West Virginia American Water spokeswoman Laura Jordan tells the Charleston Daily Mail that the adjustments will appear on affected customers’ next regular monthly bills.
Some customers will receive a credit. They were billed for 36 or more days of water service. The company’s required monthly bill cycle is 25 to 35 days.
Other customers will see an additional charge. A surcharge paid to local government entities was inadvertently left off these customers’ bills.
Jordan says the surcharge error affected about 1,000 customers.
