Ag department chooses Mingo County for hog farm

WILLIAMSON — Mingo County has been selected as a site for a state-supported hog farm that will help feed inmates at state prisons.

The West Virginia Department of Agriculture also plans to locate a hog farm in the northern part of the state.

The Williamson Daily News says Mingo County Redevelopment Authority director Steve Kominar announced the county’s selection for the southern farm last week during an authority board meeting.

He says the 500-head hog farm will offer new job opportunities and skills for local residents.
