W.Va. oil, gas job report lacks worker residency

CHARLESTON — An annual report on West Virginia oil and gas employment lack required data on the residency of workers.

A 2011 state law requires the Department of Commerce to submit an annual report on employment in the industry to lawmakers by Nov. 1. The report must include a review of the number of jobs created for West Virginia residents and non-residents. It also must include a review of the number of employees living in West Virginia.

Department of Commerce spokeswoman Chelsea Ruby tells the Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/18tXOBN ) that WorkForce West Virginia tried to obtain the residency data from the Division of Labor and the Office of the Insurance Commissioner. But she says the labor agency’s data is incidental and wouldn’t represent an accurate sample. The insurance commissioner doesn’t collect the data.
