Separate trials for W.Va. inmate slaying suspects

Associated Press

CLARKSBURG — Two inmates accused of killing another inmate at the U.S. Penitentiary at Hazelton will be tried separately.

The Exponent Telegram reports that U.S. District Judge Irene Keeley severed the cases of 33-year-old Patrick Franklin Andrews and 32-year-old Kevin Marquette Bellinger last week.

Andrews and Bellinger are each charged with aiding and abetting murder by a federal prisoner serving a life sentence. The charges stem from the 2007 slaying of 28-year-old Jesse Harris at the prison.

Andrews could face the death penalty if he’s convicted. Bellinger could face life in prison.

Bellinger’s trial is set for June 9 while Andrews’ trial is scheduled for May 4, 2015.

Both inmates had been scheduled to be tried together on June 9.
