Sunset in the Park free movie night funded for season

BLUEFIELD, Va. — The popular “Sunset in the Park” free movie nights in Bluefield, Va.’s Jack Asbury Square returns to a weekly event next Saturday night — weather permitting — according to Mayor Don Harris.

The town started hosting the free movie nights a few years ago, but had to suspend the series last year because it had not paid motion picture showing licensing fees. Harris said the town could only budget enough funds this year to show the movies every other Saturday night. However, he worked with a Bluefield, Va., based foundation that provided a grant so the town could resume its weekly movie night.

Rachel Jenkins of Bluefield, Va., attended the showing of the 2010 version of  “Karate Kid.” Jenkins said the movies, “give you a chance to come out and socialize.”
