Police are still searching for a man who robbed a Mercer County bank at gunpoint and stole a substantial amount of money.
Deputies, state troopers and K-9 dog handlers immediately launched a search for a man who robbed City National Bank at the East River Plaza off of Greasy Ridge Road, near Wal-Mart, at approximately 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, according to police reports and Mercer County 911.
Police are currently looking for a white male suspect wearing a dark green, long-sleeve shirt with yellow letters carrying a blue backpack and wearing a camouflaged face mask, Sgt. R.A. Maddy of the West Virginia State Police Princeton Detachment said at the scene.
The suspect entered the bank, pulled out a semi-automatic pistol of unknown caliber, and threatened a teller, according to Detective S.A. Sommers of the Mercer County Sheriff’s Department. Detective W.E. Rose is the lead investigator.
No injuries were reported. The suspect then fled the bank, crossed the shopping center’s parking lot, and ran into the nearby woods, Sommers said.
K-9 units with the West Virginia State Police and Mercer County Sheriff’s Department searched the area along U.S. Route 460, nearby Hilltop Drive and the Industrial Park Road area. The American National University campus was temporarily on lockdown at the request of the law enforcement agencies. The bank’s lobby and drive-through windows closed after the robbery.
