JARVISVILLE, W.Va. —
Authorities say an 11-year-old West Virginia boy died of a gunshot to the chest after a bullet his grandmother fired at suspected intruders went through his bedroom wall.
Harrison County Sheriff Albert Marano says William Owens was lying in bed just before midnight Sunday when a bullet from the .40-caliber hangun pierced the trailer’s wall and struck him.
Fifty-seven-year-old Tina Owens has not been charged, but Marano said Monday the investigation is continuing. The results will be turned over to the Harrison County prosecutor’s office.
Tina Owens’ home and the boy’s home are about 200 yards apart in the rural area of Jarvisville.
Marano said Tina Owens and the child’s father went outside when they heard what they thought were intruders.
Tina Owens fired multiple shots to scare them off.
