Marco Peter Bertazzoni pleaded guilty to charges of assault and battery and assault and battery on a disabled person, his wife, who suffers from severe arthritis.
Salem District Court Judge Matthew Machera said Bertazzoni must wear a GPS bracelet for 18 months and stay away from his wife, otherwise a prison sentence would be imposed.
Bertazzoni’s wife used her computer to notify police, fearing a 911 call would further upset him. When police arrived, she still had visible red marks on her face and neck.
The woman told police that Bertazzoni had been abusive toward her and her children in the past, and that the abuse started after his unemployment benefits ran out several years ago.
