Man killed by police after 3-county chase in W.Va.

RIPLEY —

A suspect is dead following a police chase through three counties.

Media outlets report that police shot and killed the man early Friday morning after officers used spike strips to stop his vehicle on Interstate 77 near the Ripley/Fairplain exit in Jackson County.

State Police Sgt. Michael Baylous says the man drove recklessly during the chase and refused to obey the officers' commands when it ended. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Nitro police began chasing the man after they responded to a disturbance at the Mardi Gras Casino and Resort around 2:20 a.m. Friday.

Baylous says the man fled and drove south through Kanawha County into Lincoln County. He then turned around and drove north toward Jackson County.

The man hasn't been identified.
