NORTH GRUNDY, Va. — Two people were stabbed, and a Buchanan County man is behind bars after a fight escalated at a residence in the Looney’s Creek Section of Buchanan County north of Grundy, Va.

Bo Travis Stacy, 31, of Grundy, was arrested Sunday morning and charged with two counts each of malicious wounding and attempted murder stemming from the incident at the Looney’s Creek residence. Stacy was being held on Monday at Southwest Virginia Regional Jail in Haysi, Va.

Buchanan County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Looney’s Creek at about 2 a.m. Sunday morning to respond to a report to two stabbing victims, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. Responding deputies found Billy Joe Justus, 30, of Grundy and Jessica Varney, 24, of Vansant, Va., had been stabbed.

“It was just a fight,” Sheriff Ray Foster said. “When (Stacy) got the knife out, the girl came at him and he stabbed her when she was trying to get it away from him. The other man (Justus) tried to stop him and got stabbed too.”

Justus was transported to Buchanan General Hospital with stab wounds to his back and chest area. He was later transported to Pikeville Hospital in Pikeville, Ky., and on Monday afternoon, was in the intensive care unit in stable condition.

“He had a collapsed lung, but he’s doing a little better now,” Foster said.

Varney was also initially transported to Buchanan General, and transferred to Pikeville Hospital with stab wounds to her arm. She has been treated and released.

Foster said that he doesn’t know what the fight was over, and said that the case is still under investigation.
