A fire that started in the rear of the Mayflower Restaurant on Hockman Pike in Bluefield, Va., destroyed the popular restaurant Thursday night. Firefighters were called to the scene at about 10 p.m., according to Lt. Danny Evans of the Bluefield, Va., Volunteer Fire Department.
“The fire had already gone through the roof when we got there,” Evans said. “We couldn’t gain access inside the building so we initiated a defensive attack.”
Firefighters were at the scene until they cleared at 4 a.m.
Evans said the business closed for the day at about 9 p.m., on Thursday. The restaurant was one of the area’s most popular restaurants that offered a diverse menu. The restaurant hosted the annual fall meeting of the Bluefield, Va., Business & Professional Association Inc., on Tuesday night.
