Winter storm creates hazardous conditions for holiday travelers

BLUEFIELD — Winter roared into the region this morning making for dangerous holiday travel conditions for motorists across the area.

A number of minor accidents were reported across the region, including a crash involving two tractor trailers in Wythe County. According to the Virginia State Police in Wytheville, two tractor trailers were overturned by wind at the 3-mile marker of Interstate 77 at approximately at 7 a.m. No injuries were reported.

A winter storm warning remains in effect for much of the region until later this evening.

Forecasters say additional accumulating snowfall is expected throughout the afternoon along with strong winds that will cause snow to blow and gust.
