Witness testifies to arranging sexual encounters, sending child porn

PRINCETON — A primary witness in the trial of a Mercer County man facing charges including sexual assault and possession of child pornography is now testifying in Mercer County Circuit Court.

Kimberly Cox, 38, of Nemours, previously pleaded guilty to sexual assault and sexual abuse  by a parent, guardian or custodian. She was sentenced to a term of 25 to 55 years in prison. Cox testified Wednesday morning that she sent John Spaulding, 41, of Mercer County, child pornography pictures when he requested them, and arranged sexual encounters with a then 3-year-old child at a Bluefield motel.

Under cross examination, defense attorney Harold Wolfe questioned the validity of Cox’s accounts and pointed out inconsistencies with the motel’s name and the date of the alleged encounters.

Spaulding was arrested in October 2013 and charged with five counts of sexual assault first degree, one count of attempt to commit a felony, one count of sexual abuse first degree, and 50 counts of possession of material depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. The two female victims were ages 3 and 14 at the time of the alleged incidents, according to court records.
