Bluefield woman who fatally stabbed father 107 times denied parole

BLUEFIELD — A Bluefield woman who was convicted of fatally stabbing her father 107 times in February 2004 was denied parole today.

Kayla LaSala, who was 14 at the time, stabbed her father, Michael LaSala, 107 times. She was later convicted in Mercer County Circuit Court of first-degree murder and sentenced to 25 years in prison.

LaSala’s case gained national attention after she escaped custody by removing an electronic monitoring device from her ankle and gluing it to a family cat. The case appeared on the television show “America’s Most Wanted” in August 2004. A viewer provided a tip that led authorities to Florida where she was staying with a man she had met on the Internet.

LaSala was denied parole today, according to information at the Lakin Correctional Center, a facility in Mason County. Her case will be reconsidered within a year.
