Two men arrested in connection with Tazewell school breaking and entering

RICHLANDS, Va. — Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with a breaking and entering to Raven Elementary School. Police say tips received through Facebook and Twitter helped them nab the men.

After an around the clock effort by the detective division of the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office, Mark Anthony Davis, 32, and Jeffery Ryan Hill, 28, both of Doran Bottom, were both arrested Tuesday and charged with breaking and rntering in the nighttime (felony), grand larceny (felony) and destruction of property (misdemeanor), according to Major Harold Heatley with the sheriff’s office.

Heatley said Davis is being held in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail Authority in Tazewell on a $5,000 secure bond. Hill was still being processed Tuesday evening.

“We would like to thank the tipsters that came forward on Facebook and Twitter and provided valuable tips as to the identity of the individuals involved,” Sheriff Brian Hieatt said. “This was truly, a community effort to bring both of these individuals to justice. The Tazewell County Sheriff's Office, detective division worked tirelessly over the past 24 hours to bring this case to fruition and make these arrests,. These detectives have performed in an exceptional manner and our community should be proud of the work they have done.”

Hieatt said a number of the items stolen from the school have been recovered. Anyone with information on the missing items is asked to please contact Detective Taylor Quillen with the Sheriff's Office at (276) 988-1169. The items recovered included a camera, rolled coin, loss coin, two midland portable radios with charger and the suspects clothing.
