Police say man was struck and killed by ‘commercial-sized vehicle'

BRUSHFORK — Mercer County Sheriff’s Department deputies are currently investigating the discovery this morning of a body along Stoney Ridge Road.

Deputy A.M. Ballard, one of the investigating officers, said the body of a 31-year-old man with a Bluefield,  Va. address was found by a commuter on the way to work about 7:15 a.m.

“It appears that a vehicle struck him, and it appears he was in the road when he got hit,” Ballard said. “It looked like he was struck by a commercial-sized vehicle. The name was being withheld pending the notification of next of kin.

An investigation at the scene by a local medical examiner indicated the man was struck within two hours before being found, Ballard said.

The body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Charleston. Detective Cpl. L.B. Murphy is the lead investigator. The investigation is continuing.
